History
Many years ago a group of concerned Sonoma volunteers joined together to form a 501c(3) non-profit organization, known as Sonoma Overnight Support (SOS) to help those in need of emergency shelter by providing them with a warm, safe bed for the night. Families as well as elderly people would be able to stay the night in several location ranging from church facilities to motels. As time went on and the needs grew, it became apparent that a facility was needed to help those in need in our community.
In 2007, with a grant from the State of California and the City of Sonoma, SOS purchased a four-bedroom modular house, named "The Haven", which has been in full swing for the past four years serving low income adult men, women and families who lack stable housing.
In 2009 the Sonoma Brown Baggers (SBB) was founded, another independent-community based program overseen by SOS, which prepares and distributes burritos and sandwiches to those in need. SBB also operates a soup kitchen every Friday evening, preparing and serving a soup dinner to all who are in need.
