NEWSLETTER - MAY 2008 BECAUSE WE CAN, WE DO! Our first two months in The Haven have been very successful. Thanks to the great work of our House Manager, Kristina Ordaz, we haven’t made any major mistakes and the clients that we have served are beginning to thrive. This new program of feeding and counseling our clients is a marked improvement over putting people up in motels. Also, the lives our clients are now directed toward becoming productive and situated in long term housing. Thank you to all of the volunteers that have supported our program.
We received another grant from FEMA for food and housing. It was not as much as we had asked for but helpful. In February we were selected as partners in the Wine auction to be held on Labor Day weekend. If we can do our part to fulfill the agreement, it could mean substantial funds could be coming our way. We are partnered with BK Cohn winery and we have put together a good lot for bidding. We will need six volunteers to help during the auction. If you would like to volunteer, please call Bill at (415) 328-0016. We are also collecting names of people who would like to attend tend the auction.
We had a good Client-Intake training session on April 19th. We will need to get all people involved in Client-Intake, one of our most important functions, to do a training session. Another session is set for June 7th. If you haven’t had this training and wish to continue in your role as a Client-Intake counselor, please plan on attending. RSVP to Bill regarding your availability.
We are planning to have another SOS basic volunteer training on May 17th for volunteers who were unable to make the training in April. During this training you will get a better idea of the needs and concerns of SOS and how you can best provide support. As noted on the calendar, we are short of Client-Intake volunteers. Please consider this important element of SOS as you volunteer your time and energy.
The board meeting has been changed from the fourth Thursday to the third Thursday. Anyone wishing to attend the meeting is invited to join us at Faith Lutheran Church on Arnold Drive near Petaluma Ave. from 5 PM to 6 PM,
Please use our website and give us any suggestions as to its improvement.
