VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES There are a number of different opportunities to volunteer in support of Sonoma Overnight Supports goal of providing safe and secure housing for people who find themselves in need of shelter and lunches for people with insufficient resources for food. The following is a list of a few of the areas where volunteers are needed. Other needs may become important as our operation evolves. General Support: Fund Raising Help with application to foundations and the state and federal government for grants to support the programs. Publicity Assist in communications with the other volunteers, newspaper articles, monthly newsletter and speakers bureau. Emergency Shelter: Intake Support Interview potential clients to assure they meet housing requirements. Life Skills Counseling Provide support to clients in dealing with issues of daily living. Support for the House Manager Relieve the house manager once or twice a month in the evening for several hours between 5 PM to 11 PM. Adopt-a-Room Be responsible for the decorations and window coverings in a designated room. Exterior House Maintenance Monitor the landscaping around the house and make suggestions for beautification. Interior House Maintenance Come in once or twice a month and support the necessary cleaning activities. Food Stores Review the inventory of food in the house and assure that the necessary food is restocked. Meal Preparation Review the frozen food and prepare meals suitable for freezing. Brown Baggers: Lunch Preparation Assist in making lunches at St. Leos. Lunches are prepared twice a week. Lunch Delivery Deliver prepared lunches to the various distribution sites. |
