June 21, 2025

Dear Friend of SOS,

I’m pleased to inform you that on June 18 the Sonoma City Council approved a resolution to grant SOS a one-time amount of $25,000 to feed the homeless of Sonoma Valley. This is in addition to the current Memorandum of Understanding we have with the City for $50,000 to feed the homeless, which will expire on June 30, 2025 and which we are encouraged to renew.

In addition, we received a $2,000 grant from the Rotary Club of Sonoma Valley to continue delivering meals to our homebound elderly clients.

Unity Kitchen was closed in honor of Juneteenth. We made arrangements for our delivery volunteers to deliver 51 meals on Tuesday and 53 meals on Wednesday –  plenty of food to tide them over.

It was also helpful to be closed, because some major work was being done on the kitchen – due to the kindness of our landlord, Jerry Curiel – to repair a broken pipe. So we would not have been able to prepare meals or turn on the water that day.

We continue to celebrate summer with donations from our local farms, and recovery foods from Whole Foods Market, Safeway, and Sonoma Market. We received $30,986 worth of food donations for meal service, and $1,932 worth of donations of wine and food for our volunteer celebration. We are very grateful for all of these donations.

We are living in uncertain times, and we try to be a safe space so that those who are the most vulnerable can come to us and receive a meal.

So far this month we have provided 1,718 Breakfasts, 1,931 Lunches, 302 deliveries for an impressive 3,951 Total meals – with another week left in the month.

You can help SOS continue this vital work by making a contribution on our website.

With gratitude,

Kathy King
