Dear Friend of SOS,
The Santa Rosa Press Democrat’s front page headline on June 24, 2025, was: “Federal aid food cuts raise concerns. Local families may go hungry.”
According to reporter Adriana Gutierrez, “Another sweeping round of proposed federal cuts to food aid threatens to leave thousands of local families, including children, without the support they need to get by. … Food bank leaders say (the cuts) will make it harder for parents and senior citizens to put food on the table.”
At Unity Kitchen, SOS is doing what we can to make sure those who are food deprived and homeless, especially children, do not go hungry.
This month so far, we’ve served 1,718 breakfasts, 3,951 lunches, and delivered 302 meals to homebound clients, for a total of 5,971 meals. By the end of the month, the total meals will exceed 6,000.
We have partnered with Art Escape, a nonprofit art school just a block away from Unity Kitchen, to provide meals for their summer campers. Art workshops, led by experienced instructors, offers them the opportunity to unleash their imagination and express themselves through various mediums. |
